Nellie Brown Gunter
March 26, 2026
Nellie Brown Gunter, 88, of Stuttgart, formerly of Brinkley, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 at Baptist Health in Stuttgart.
Nellie chose to write her own obituary with the help of her long-time friend, Hugh Redmon, relative to her passing.
At this time I want to thank God for the many years he gave me living in this beautiful world that he created; for the wonderful parents who gently but steadfastly instilled the character and molded my life for which I am eternally grateful; and for Carl Gunter, my husband of 62 years for the happiness, love, and protection that he provided. My life was full of so many great times and blessings that it is difficult to pass on just a few. But there are some that stand out and which I feel that I must mention. I loved the years I worked as a designer. I was able to meet and work with some really great and wonderful people. I also loved working in my church, the time I spent in my yard, my time reading and especially getting together with my friends. As my life on earth ends and yours continues, I pray you have or will have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. For he is the only one who can truly give you comfort, peace, love, and everlasting life, while also helping you through the difficult times in life.
To my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I want you to know that I love each and everyone of you deeply and that you have made my earthly life worth living. Words cannot express what you have meant to me, and I thank you so much for being part of my life. To all my friends, thank you for the companionship and the good times.
Carl and Nellis were the parents of three wonderful children, Rana Kerksieck, Sharon (Dennis) Seidenschwarz and Mindy Gunter, who preceded her in death. They also had three delightful grandchildren, Libby (Chris) Atkinson, Ashley (Paxton) Elliott, and Paige (Colton) Rogers; and four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Elliot Atkinson and Weston and Jackson Elliott.
Besides her husband and daughter, she was also preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Viola Brown; and her son-in-law, John Kerksieck.
Funeral service was March 19 at the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Stuttgart with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
