Eagles Advance in North 2A Regional Tournament

The Marvell Academy Eagles battled the Delta Academy Raiders on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, in the final game of the District 1 – 2A Tournament held at Marvell Academy’s home gym.  The Eagles came in second place in the tournament.  

 

They advanced to the North 2A Regional Tournament, held at Columbus Christian Academy, as a #2 seed.  The Marvell Academy Eagles faced off against Hebron Christian, a #4 seed, on Tuesday, February 7th, at 4:00 p.m.  The MA Eagles crushed Hebron Christian 58-27.

 

This win advanced the Marvell Academy Eagles to the final four round of the North 2A Regional Tournament and punched their ticket for the 2A State Tournament next week.  The Eagles previously went to the State Tournament in 2016-17 under the leadership of Coach Justin Cunningham.  The Eagles went back-to-back to the State Tournament in 1993-94 and 1994-95 with Coach Jimmy McGregor, who is back coaching with Head Coach Martin Rawls and Head Girls Coach Cathy Wilson.

 

“It’s been a long time coming with the Marvell Academy Boys’ basketball program.  We have had injuries and illness most of the season.  Now that everyone is back and the junior high kids can play a full game, we have been very successful the past few weeks.  The effort and energy the boys have been showing is through the roof.  I am looking forward to seeing how we compete this weekend against some good competition,” stated Coach Rawls when asked about the team’s current success.
